About the Work
My work bridges traditional technique with contemporary innovation, preserving the layered interplay of light, time, and place. Using a 19th-century photographic time-blending technique for some landscape images, I merge up to 20 exposures captured in a single location throughout the day, creating an irreplicable image.
Coupled with over fifteen years of expedition guiding and photography experiences is a deep understanding and respect for the natural world and observation of its nuances and delicate balances. These images harness the power of storytelling to stimulate conversation and promote environmental literacy while providing access to the uncharted natural realm through ethically captured images.
Transitioning from digital to physical, these images undergo a meticulous hand-finishing process: my studio assistant and I hand-roll liquid gel ink onto translucent cellophane sheets. Once heated to a gaseous state, it infuses into open pores. As the substrate cools, its pores close, permanently bonding the image to the upcycled aluminum surface. In its entirety from pre to post production, the process takes me anywhere from a few weeks to several years.
